Introduction to the poet (কবি পরিচিতি): Rabindranath Tagore (রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর)

রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ১৮৬১ সালের ৭ই মে কলকাতার এক ধনাঢ্য পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তিঁনি ছিলেন অগ্রণী বাঙ্গালী কবি, ঔপন্যাসিক, সঙ্গীতস্রষ্টা, নাট্যকার, চিত্রকর, ছোটগল্পকার, প্রাবন্ধিক, কন্ঠশিল্পী ও দার্শনিক। তাঁকে বাংলা ভাষার সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ্য সাহিত্যিক মনে করা হয়। ১৯১৩ সালে গীতাঞ্জলি কাব্যগ্রন্থের জন্য তাঁকে সাহিত্যে নোবেল পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হয়। ইউরোপের বাহিরের প্রথম নোবেল পুরস্কার বিজয়ী হিসাবে তিনি বিশ্বে ব্যপক খ্যাতি লাভ করেন। দীর্ঘ রোগভোগের পর ১৯৪১ সালের ৭ই অগাস্ট জোড়াসাঁকোর বাসভবনে শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর। তবে মৃত্যুর সাত দিন আগে পর্যন্ত তিঁনি সৃষ্টিশীল ছিলেন।

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in a wealthy family in Calcutta. He was a leading Bengali poet, novelist, composer, playwright, illustrator, short story writer, essayist, vocalist and philosopher. He is considered to be the greatest writer of Bengali language. In 1913 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his book Gitanjali. As the first Nobel laureate outside Europe, he gained worldwide fame. After a long illness, Rabindranath Tagore breathed his last on August 8, 1941 at Jorasanko's residence. But he was creative until seven days before his death.
